Airfares are wonderful at the moment, I'm going to visit my brother in Dublin (and attend a science fiction convention over there) and it's costing me about 35 pounds return including the taxes (which are about half of the airfare!) RyanAir (and for international travel, then one of the places to check is eBookers.com. They currently have flights for the end of October to New York (from London) from 199 pounds plus taxes (cheapest was Lufthansa via Munich for 228 total, cheapest direct was British Airways or United, both of whom had flights from London Heathrow to JFK for 260 pounds inclusive)
